Afterlife Belongings
Our ancient siyá:m were worthy, wealthy, and respected people, and many of them were put to rest with their finest belongings for their journey into afterlife. Some of our siyá:m wore necklaces with copper pendants and finely ground slate beads. Some had copper carefully placed on their faces or in their mouths. The Chief put to rest in Ancestor Mound 1 was adorned with copper pieces, abalone earrings, and dentalia shell beads, pictured here.
