Basketry

Our mothers and grandmothers—including our ancestors from Qithyil—were expert basket-makers. They gathered cattail stems, redcedar roots, and cherry bark in the summer and fall to make their baskets indoors during the stormy cold winter. They made storage baskets, cooking baskets, mats, and ‘utility’ baskets for carrying what they harvested in the forest and from the river.
