SXWŌXWIYÁM | Our Elders tell us that sxwōxwiyám is the time and the stories from long ago when the world was not quite right. It was a time when animals and people could talk to each other and could transform from one to the other. Through sxwōxwiyám we are all connected.

Sqwélqwel
SQWÉLQWEL | Sqwélqwel means "true news". It refers to the oral history of our ancestors and the places they lived, fished, hunted, and harvested plants. Every Stό:lō person has their own sqwélqwel. This section tells stories of our history from ancient times to the present, of who we are as a people.

Burned House Plank

In archaeology it is rare to find the wood from ancient houses. At Qithyil, we discovered a burned house plank. This plank may have been part of the walls or roof of a 2400 year old shed-roof longhouse. In this photo, James Katz is excavating this house plank.
